SENSE PRODUCTION AND HANDBOOK FOR HISTORY TEACHERS

"De-Weaponizing History" - SENSE webinars for history teachers

The webinars for history teachers held in December 2023, organized by the SENSE Center for Transitional Justice and the Croatian Association of History Teachers (HUNP), brought together history teachers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, and North Macedonia to exchange experiences on the SENSE Center production as a supplement to the "Handbook for History Educators" (Handbook) of the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals (MICT) Information Program.

The topic also included combining the use of the archive of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the archive of reports collected through its work by SENSE. The Tribunal/Mechanism archive is more extensive, but the materials produced by SENSE - reports, documentaries, TV reviews, and interactive narratives - serve as a bridge through which teachers and all interested parties can more easily access and navigate through this extensive archive, said Mina Vidaković from the SENSE Center.

Anisa Sućeska from the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) presented the "Handbook for History Educators" compiled by members of several history teachers' associations from the region in collaboration with the Mechanism's Information Program.

The authors of individual chapters presented methods for the practical use of SENSE interactive narratives in combination with the Handbook during the webinar. Donika Xhemajli and Nataša Kostić spoke about the use of SENSE Agency Interactive Narratives in the chapter "Women in War", Igor Radulović and Emina Živković in the chapter "Migrations and Armed Conflicts", while Arna Daguda Torlaković and Miloš Vukanović discussed how SENSE narratives can be used in the chapter "Children in War".

Igor Jovanović and Aleksandar Todosijević demonstrated the use of SENSE Agency Interactive Narratives in the chapter "The Legacy of the Hague Tribunal and History Education", and Admir Ibričić and Mire Mladenovski in the chapter "Cultural Genocide" of the Handbook for History Educators on the use of the archives of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia and the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals.
